Philosophy - A Guide to Happiness: with Alain DeBotton. Nietzsche didn’t think it was enough to suffer, if hardship is all it took then all of us would be happy. The challenge is to respond well to suffering, to create it to make something beautif...ul. Nietzsche says all lives have failure in them, it is the manner in which failure is met. Nietzsche often wished misfortune on his friends, because he thought hardship is a necessary evil out of which if these friends were skilled they might be able to harvest beautiful things. Video then goes into Nietzsche’s early life. They vidsit the house he grew up in. Video is good quality, photography is good and narrator’s voice is clear. Video is appropriate for high school students.

Giants of Philosophy video. Video continues with Neitzsche’s discussion of human life and its separation of nature. He says they are grown together, and man is holy nature. Neitzsche reinterprets our human nature in entirely naturalistic terms. He... wants to dispel the idea that we were created by God in his image and to draw attention instead to the conditions in life in which human life was really developed. He does not think or want us to totally understand or explain everything about human life. Video also discusses how Neitzsche characterizes man as the most endangered animal and most sickly and most bungled of all animals. Video is of average quality, language used in video is higher level and not for the casual viewer. Video is for high school students.
