We were forty miles from Albany forget it I never shall
what a terrible storm we had one night on the E'ri'e canal
Oh the E'ri'e was arising and the gin was getting low,
and I scarcely think we'll get a drink 'till we get to Buffalo,
'till we ge...t to Buffalo".
The barge was full of barley and the crew was full of rye,
the Captain he looked down on me with a ricked wicked eye.
Oh the E'ri'e was arising and the gin was getting low,
and I scarcely think we're gonna get a little drink 'till we get to Buffalo,
'till we get to Buffalo.
Well the Captain he stood up on the deck with a spy glass in his hand,
and the fog was so god darn thick that he couldn't spy the land.
Oh the E'ri'e was arising and the gin was getting low,
and I scarcely think we're gonna get a little drink 'till we get to Buffalo, 'till we get to Buffalo.
Now two days out from Syracuse the vessel struck a shoal,
we liked all been floundered on a chuckalauka coal.
Oh the E'ri'e was arising and the gin was getting low,
and I scarcely think we're gonna get a little drink 'till we get to Buffalo,
'till we get to Buffalo.
The cook she was a grand ole gal. She wore a ragged dress.
We hoisted her upon the pole as a signal of distress.
Oh the E'ri'e was arising and the gin was getting low,
and I scarcely think we're gonna get a little drink 'till we get to Buffalo,
'till we get to Buffalo.
Now the Captain he got married, the cook she went to jail,
and I'm the only son of a 'sea cook' left to tell the tale".
Oh the E'ri'e was arising and the gin was getting low,
and I scarcely think we'll get a drink 'till we get to Buffalo,
'till we get to Buffalo...
Oh the E'ri'e was arising and the gin was getting low,
and I scarcely think we're gonna get a little drink 'till we get to city of Buffalo.
Till we get to Buffalo".

At 92 years old, Pete Seeger’s version of “Forever Young” by Bob Dylan. Hounded by the McCarthy anti-communists in the 1950′s, the grandfather of modern folk music.
Ironically, driving Pete Seeger underground spawned the interest of a whole generati...on in protest music, which helped to end the War in Vietnam and defined the 1960s rebellion.
Pete Seeger was a friend of Woody Guthrie and a major inspiration for
Bob Dylan. Pete Seeger was one of Bob Dylan’s earliest backers, urging
John Hammond of Columbia to sign and record him. His social activism would be an inspiration for Dylan throughout his career.
e couldn’t play on TV, radio, clubs or anywhere controlled or licensed
by the government because he had been a socialist or communist. A lot of performers, artists and movie stars had socialist sympathies. The followers of McCarthyism tried to drive them into poverty.

Just a bit of research on the Weavers will clue you in on how popular they were, how important to the development of what became 'folk music',
and what they suffered, labeled communists and blacklisted, unable to
perform. Their catalog on Decca wa...s pulled off the shelves. Eventually
the tide turned, after several years, and they were able to perform again. "Goodnight Irene" was a HUGE hit - starying at #1 for 13 weeks.
