This video deals with the various geographical landmarks that surround and make up China. One of the largest deserts in the world the, Gobi Desert, stretches across the nothern part of China. The Balankyla, Himalayan, and the Kunlun mountain ranges are one of the many mountainous terrains that settle in China. One famous mountain, Mt. Everest, is the most tallest mountain in the world that
stands at about 29,035 ft high. The Taklamakan Desert is so hot that even before the raindrops hit the ground they evaporate into the air. The Plateau of Tibet is the largest plateau in the world. The Yellow River is a primary source of water that supported farmlands and crops during Ancient China. It was also known as the "River of Sorrow" because it killed many lives as it flooded the areas around the river. The music may be of concern for some, but lends a tone to the subject matter.

This brief experiment includes 2 ice cubes: one is placed on a cork mat (an insulator) and one on a metal surface (conductor). Because the metal is a conductor it is able to conduct thermal energy to the ice cube (and take it from the surroundings) much more quickly than the cork mat. The ice cube on the metal has completely melted while the cork mat has hardly made a dent.
This experiment also demonstrates that air (as with any gas) is a good insulator. If air was a good conductor, then the ice on the metal might have melted marginally faster; the effect would not be nearly so pronounced.
The video plays at 16 times normal speed; the ice cube on the metal took just over 8 minutes to melt. No audio. (0:32)

This professionally-made music video from They Might Be Giants explains that a shooting star is actually is a meteor in the sky. Cartoons are simple and cute while the tune and lyrics are catchy and easy to remember. Some lyrics include "A shooting star is not a star, is not a star at all. A shooting star is a meteor that's heading for a fall. A shooting star is not a star. Why does it shine so bright? The friction as it falls through air produces heat and light. A shooting star or meteor, whichever name you like. The minute it comes down to Earth it's called a meteorite." (01:32)

The Hydrologic Cycle (or the Water Cycle) is a cycle of evaporation, evapotranspiration, precipitation and infiltration. (02:18)
The sun heats bodies of waters such as oceans and lakes, which causes the water to evaporate and form water vapor. Water vapor is also transpired from trees and soil. The collection of water vapor condenses to form clouds, which move around the globe by air currents. With the right conditions, clouds precipitate; some of the water absorbs into the ground to form an aquifer, and some runs into lakes and streams. This is a continuous cycle, however, human settlement has put a damper on the cycle. For example, industrial waste and toxins can pollute air and water, the building of dams disrupts the natural flow of water, the building of roads cause erosion, to name a few. In order to prevent further harm to the environment, we should consider the consequences of our actions to create a more eco-friendly environment for our future.

This video is definitely useful to help students build background knowledge as they take a trip to the past with this 1960's-1970's commercial on the Dare Devil Trik Trak car and track set and Tupperware-air tight plastic containers. This video shows how Tupperware was sold at demonstration parties. Students will enjoy how different things were (clothing, homes, yellow pages, hair styles, etc.) in the 60's-70's. This is a good teaching resource for middle/high school students and would work in conjunction with a unit/lesson on decade history, economics, and/or plastics. (3:31)

Home video showing many fire tornados. The video shows a line of fire and how the wind makes the tornadoes with the fire. A fire tornado or whirls often occur during bush fires. Vertical rotating columns of fire form when the air currents and temperature are just right, creating a tornado-like effect. They can be as high as 30 to 200 ft tall and up to 10 ft wide but only last a few minutes, although some can last for longer if the winds are strong. There is no narration. (00:31)

The children blow up helium balloons on a windy day and experiment with different weights to hold them down. The first weight is too light and the balloon blows away. The second weight is too heavy and balloon just stays on the ground. The third weight is just right and the balloons float in mid-air. The children also give a brief description of helium: "Helium is a gas that is lighter than air."

This NASA video segment explores how Newton's Laws of Motion apply to the drag force on an airplane. Viewers watch an instructor at NASA's National Test Pilot School and learn that the drag force on an airplane in flight is the result of the horizontal momentum of air molecules colliding with the airplane. Viewers also learn that this drag force can be changed by reshaping the airplane, changing the angle of attack, and placing speed brakes on the wings. A demonstration illustrates how the drag force on an object can be determined, while derivations of the drag equation from Newton's second law show how the force can be calculated. Onscreen formulas and calculations represent the forces mathematically. Run time 12:28.

MAC vs PC
A simple, yet effective example of how to use "air and rebut". Examine how the the character "Mac" acknowledges certain aspects of "PC" are great, but then goes on to emphasize features about "himself" that make "Mac" a more appealing product. DO you think that the distinction between the ages of "Mac" and "PC' are purposeful? What are they trying to communicate here? -as a side note (Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne are the founders of "PC" and Mac"
