Every other Tuesday afternoon, from 2:30 to 3:30, Camilla Sanders-Avery's students at Carver High School, in Birmingham, Alabama, have a videoconference with some of the most successful animators in Hollywood. The students display their animation projects and get immediate feedback from the experts. No sugarcoating here: "They tell you exactly what your work needs," says senior Eric Gates. "They don't hold anything back." The frank critiques can initially rattle kids accustomed to handing in assignments, getting a grade, and moving on. But many students rise to the challenge. Soon, they're revising their illustrations, storyboards, and film clips, laboring mightily to show the pros, and perhaps themselves, what they're capable of achieving."The feedback is invaluable," Sanders-Avery says. "As a teacher, you can say what students need to focus on in their education. But when they hear it from someone in the industry, they take it more seriously." (7:52)

Born January 9th, 1913 in Yorba Linda, California, Richard M. Nixon started his political career as a Republican congressman. He parlayed his popularity to a shot at the vice presidency alongside Dwight Eisenhower, and continued charming the nation with his frank talk and foreign policy successes. After losing the presidential race in 1960 to John F. Kennedy, many thought his political career was over. However, in 1968 he was elected the 37th President of the United States. Despite his many accomplishments, Nixon is probably best remembered as the face of the embarrassing Watergate scandal, and he stepped down as president on August 9th, 1974. In this video, WatchMojo.com learns more about the life and accomplishments of Richard Nixon. (06:21)

THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ - FULL AudioBook | DRAMATIC READING | Greatest Audio Books | by L. Frank Baum - The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a children's novel w written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W. W. Denslow. Originally published by the George M. Hill Company in Chicago on May 17, 1900, it has since been reprinted numerous times, most often under the name The Wizard of Oz, which is the name of both the popular 1902 Broadway musical and the well-known 1939 film adaptation. The story chronicles the adventures of a young girl named Dorothy in the Land of Oz, after being swept away from her Kansas farm home in a cyclone. The novel is one of the best-known stories in American popular culture and has been widely translated. Its initial success, and the success of the 1902 Broadway musical which Baum adapted from his original story, led to Baum's writing thirteen more Oz books. The original book has been in the public domain in the US since 1956. (4:26:15)

While mainly known as a founding member of the seminal folk revival group The New Lost City Ramblers, John Cohen is also a musicologist, photographer and filmmaker who is responsible for the documentation and recording of many great Appalachian musicians such as Roscoe Holcomb, Dillard Chandler, EC Ball, Frank Proffitt, and Wade Ward among many others. John was photographing Bob Dylan and the Beats in New York in the late 50's and early 60's as well as producing and directing the legendary film The High Lonesome Sound. KEXP DJ Greg Vandy and filmmaker Drew Christie interviewed John about many of these topics and this short documentary is the result. (09:24)

New Views of the Pillars of Creation, presented by Dr. Frank Summers, Space Telescope Science Institute. One of Hubble's most famous images was taken in 1995. The iconic "Pillars of Creation" shows the tall and beautiful gaseous pillar structures that can form inside star-forming regions. Within these dark clouds, stars are being born. Hubble kicked off its 25th anniversary year in 2015 with some images that used its improved cameras to revisit these beautiful pillars. This larger, higher resolution, and expanded wavelength examination uncovered new details, new features, and new perspectives on a classic image. (15:55)

Riches, Rivals, and Radicals is filled with characters whose fervor fueled the revolution that changed America's museums.“Riches, Rivals and Radicals: 100 Years of Museums In America” shows that the museum world does not lack heroes and visionaries: Franklin Delano Roosevelt believed that museums were part of the very “warp and woof” of democracy. His Works Progress Administration employment program engaged artists—such as Jackson Pollock and Jacob Lawrence, who worked in museums. John Cotton Dana, founder of New Jersey’s Newark Museum created integrated art classes and apprenticeship programs for young women seeking museum careers. He exhibited factory objects as works of art to increase awareness of the contributions of immigrant factory workers. Julius Rosenwald, founder of Sears and Roebuck also founded the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Frank Oppenheimer, the nuclear physicist, founded San Francisco’s Exploratorium in 1969.
