Michio Kaku: The Universe in a Nutshell
From YouTube, produced by bigthink
The Universe in a Nutshell: The Physics of Everything Michio Kaku, Henry Semat Professor of Theoretical Physics at CUNY What if we could find one single equation that explains every force in the universe? Dr. Michio Kaku explores how physicists may shrink the science of the Big Bang into an equation as small as Einstein's "e=mc^2." Thanks to advances in string theory, physics may allow us to escape the heat death of the universe, explore the multiverse, and unlock the secrets of existence. While firing up our imaginations about the future, Kaku also presents a succinct history of physics and makes a compelling case for why physics is the key to pretty much everything. (42:14)

Integration
From learner.org, produced by California Institute of Technology
Newton and Leibniz sprint for the calculus. Winning the longest race in scientific history -- more than 2000 years, from the Golden Age of Greece to the end of the seventeenth century in Europe -- Newton and Leibniz arrived at the conclusion that differentiation and integration are inverse processes. Their exciting intellectual discovery, dramatically rerun to reflect the times, ended in an extremely controversial dead heat.

Experience the Disaster that Wiped Out Dinosaurs
From YouTube, produced by Science Channel
When the dinosaur-killing asteroid struck Earth, most of the impact energy was directed outwards and upwards into space. Only 1% of the force traveled down into the ground, but it was enough to ring the planet like a bell and wipe out species around the globe. Only those creatures able to seek shelter from the intense heat on the surface survived. (04:36)

Studying Elephants
From pbslearningmedia.org, produced by Mike Birkhead Associates
In this video segment from Nature, award-winning filmmaker Martyn Colbeck has traveled to Africa to learn about and photograph elephants. From the first day Colbeck was introduced to Echo, the matriarch of the elephant family, he was fascinated by these giant creatures and their relationships with each other. He observes the gentleness of the elephant family when a newborn elephant, Ely, was having trouble walking. The elephants had to decide whether to stay with the disabled calf or to perhaps let it die from the heat and dehydration. Miraculously, the calf adapted to his disability and with the support of his family, survived. (07:48)

Price Ceilings: Misallocation of Resources
From YouTube, produced by Marginal Revolution University
Suppose there is a mild winter on the West Coast and a harsh winter on the East Coast. As a result of the weather, people on East Coast will demand more heating oil, bidding up the price. Under the price system, entrepreneurs will be incentivized to take oil from where it has lower value on West Coast to where it has higher value on the East Coast. But when price controls are in place, even though the demand is still there from the East Coast, there is no signal of a higher price, eliminating the incentive for entrepreneurs to transport oil from west to east. In fact, this happened in the 1970s. (11:48)
