One hundred and five years ago, humans first took flight. It was the inventive, creative minds of two Ohio brothers that made it possible. We know their names, but what else can we learn from the Wright Brothers? We hear from Tom Crouch, from the Smithsonian Institution and author of The Bishop's Boys. (10:51)

One of the most heartbreaking moments in American space travel came on January 28, 1986 when the Challenger Space Shuttle broke apart only 73 seconds into its launch. Killing all seven crew members on board, including the inaugural member of the Teacher in Space project, the tragedy marked the first time multiple lives were lost on an American space flight. Devastating the nation, and the NASA program, the event served to make future space flights safer as regulations were tightened following the catastrophe. (02:32)

Stunning, silvery-white plumage adorns this large pelican during the breeding season, contrasting with the rubbery orange-red pouch beneath the bill, as well as to the yellow to purple bare skin around the eyes. A thick crest of silver feathers on the nape adds to the luxurious look of this impressive bird.
