At the end of October 2011, Thomas Senkel of e-volo made the first manned flight with an e-powered multicopter at an airstrip in the southwest of Germany. The flight lasted one minute and 30 seconds, after which the constructor and test pilot stated: “The flight characteristics are good-natured. Without any steering input it would just hover there on the spot”. This could be the future of flight, piloting a device as simple as a car. (03:56)

This short video gives excellent real life footage of two Purple Emperor Butterflies in flight. Males of this beautiful butterfly have an iridescent purple or bluish sheen to the upper surface of the wings when viewed from a certain angle. Females do not have this iridescence, however, and are patterned with dark brown and white markings, as are the males when the iridescence is not visible. The African river-martin, the most primitive living swallow, has blue-black or purple-black plumage with an attractive green sheen to the back, and sooty brown under-wings. Its tail is black and square, the feet are brownish-pink, and the red eye is surrounded by a pink eye ring. The greater flamingo is instantly recognizable by its long, thin neck and legs, colorful plumage and distinctive downward-bending beak. As well as being the largest of the flamingo species, it is also the palest, with white to pale pink plumage, contrasting red shoulders, and black tips to the wings. The legs are pink, the eyes yellow, and the beak is pale pink, with a black tip.
