The History of Aviation
From watchmojo.com, produced by WatchMojo
Humanity has been building primitive flying apparatuses since before the Common Era. However, famed Italian inventor Leonardo da Vinci is credited with designing early ancestors of the airplane based on the flight of birds, including the parachute and an early version of the propeller. Centuries later, the first successful flight by the Wright Brothers allowed air travel to not only become a reality, but become the fastest method of global transportation, as well as a major pillar of modern warfare. Join WatchMojo.com as we take a look at the history of aviation. (4:48)

Mole Cricket in Burrow
From arkive.org, produced by arkive.org--BBC History
This short video gives excellent real life, close up footage of a Mole Cricket in burrow. This is our largest native orthopteran and one of our most impressive and unusual looking insects. The body is brown in color and covered with fine velvety hairs, and the forelegs are greatly modified for digging. Only the adult stages are winged, and flight is said to be clumsy, directionless and only performed on rare occasions at night. Males can be distinguished from the females by the open vein area in the forewing known as the 'harp', females lack the external ovipositor of other crickets. This is a great resource to help build background knowledge and to help make real world connections between nature and the classroom. (0:46)
